Love's Sacrifice
During the precious youth in which she ever resides, a wise old Oak asked the little silver child to spin, for him, the tale of her life. Her face lit up as the moon shines in the sun’s reflection, and when she spoke it was as the wolves howl. She liked to imagine the wonders of what was to come. The child danced beneath the Oak’s wide branches, joyously shouting out all of the grand adventures that will weave into her magnificent story. She would climb mountains that ponder within the clouds’ cotton dreams and swim through the countless blues of the seven seas. She would leap into the Milky Way and pull down the yonder stars, so that the world could know its own mystery. She would tiptoe through the forests and burning fields to take the fighters home and fill their lost hearts with peace. She would link arms with all the living and tread the Earth, showing each the magic of their own imagination...the true passions of Yahweh’s art. There were endless wonders that the child would take part in. She was infinite after all, and powerful at that. When her voice was weak and her legs began to shake in exhaustion, she said to the Oak, “This is not the end, only a little break. We Humans must rest after all.”
The wise Oak laughed slowly as she curled up in his branches. “My child,” he said gently, “that is a beautiful tale… but do not take to it too strictly, for life can be rather unpredictable. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, you will fall in love, and everything will change.”
At that, the Oak returned to his pulsing slumber, but the little silver child could find no rest. She was mortified in fear of the sacrifice that love would cost her. Tears streamed down her cheeks and she shook wildly as a piercing wind whirled through the branches and over her bare skin. She had never imagined that anything could alter her dreams. How is it that love always seems so cruel? Were humans truly fashioned for it?...so that even purpose bows down to its demands? No, she would not allow it even a chance. And just like that, she swept Love and its sacrifice far from her mind.
