The Giver of Wisdom

Once upon a time there lived a girl, young of heart and mind. When the child came of age enough to see with true eyes, a star of glowing brilliance came to her from the foreign landscape of yonder. As soon as her eyes met the shining orb, she knew that they were to be one in love. The beautiful star entered her mind and shared with her the most valuable gift that is to be given, its wisdom. Light and dark, hate and love, life and death, engulfed the young girl as their identities became one. The girl loved the star more than life itself. She became wise with the memories of the star, for it filled her with the experience of an entire lifetime. One beautiful day, the flow of memories from the star ceased and her wise mind went blank. The young girl looked with questioning eyes at her beloved friend, and in response, the shining orb spoke, “Child, I have shared with you my greatest gift and now have nothing left to offer.” And, just like that, it left the young child alone. Her body went limp as she fell to the floor, hardly able to breathe. Hot tears rolled down her burning cheeks and she choked on sobs of despair. Without the star she felt as if a piece of her had broken off and shattered to dust. She felt entirely alone in her own land and empty in her own mind. Days...weeks...months passed and yet the child lied alone in the sadness of her soul. Soon the day came when the child could cry no more tears. As she lifted her head in anger of betrayal, a flicker of light flashed throughout her being and she remembered that the star had given her the greatest gift of all. It was then that she realized the star had given her its entire self and only an empty shell had left her behind.
